AMPD1 can influence production of ATP and is associated with recovery from exercise and endurance performance.

AMPD is an enzyme that plays a role in anaerobic capacity and leads to fast accumulation of lactate after sprint exercises. AMPD1 has been linked to different levels of this enzyme. AMPD is key for the synthesis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and is most active during short-term, high intensity exercise. AMPD restores the ATP to adenosine ratio to one that is most optimal for muscle contraction.
